THE WHEN AND WHY OF PRE EMERGENT HERBICIDE

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 1:04 PM Comments comments (60)
The old adage" A good offense is the best defense " couldn't be more true when trying to keep your lawn weed free. Weeds are the inevitable enemy of your lawn and will take it over  if nothing is done to stop them. A single weed may be capable of dropping thousands of seeds. If you have covinced yourself you don't have a single weed in your lawn, odds are your neighbor does, and a nice breeze will carry those weed seeds to hundreds of yards where they can last up to 50 years just waiting for the right conditions to take root in your fine manicured yard.

Fortunately technology has lent us a hand at battling weeds. A quick application of commercial grade pre-emergent and all those pesky weeds will lay dormant another year. Yes, dormant. See a pre-emergent weed control product isn't a weed killer. It keeps the weeds from growing which is why it is critical to put down a pre-emergent herbicide product every year.

When to apply pre-emergent herbicides:

Simple! Between March 1-15 is the best time to apply here in the midwest. Basically you want to control summer weeds before temperatures start to rise and weeds take root and start growing. The two major offenders are crabgrass and clover.

Fortunately Classic Green Lawn Care has the tools, products and knowledge to customize a program that not only will keep your lawn weed free but green and healthy.
